This was the BIGGEST waste of time ever

I can't believe I made this mistake

The other day, I screwed up…

It wasn’t the biggest screw up of all time

But it sure sucked…

You see, I regularly review the Tube Academy students channels

What I do is analyze their videos:

  • Titles

  • Thumbnails

  • Videos

  • Branding

  • Planning

This takes about an hour to review and record my observations

So I can send the feedback to the student and they can be on their way

The other day, I was about to finish my 30 minute recording of their channel

And then it hit me

The “on” light on my microphone wasn’t on…

After recording for 30 minutes, all I was left with was a video of a cursor moving across the screen and nothing more…

Annoying to say the least and for my mistake I got to enjoy a sore throat at the end of the day because of all the talking

But, this is not as annoying as many channel owners experience on YouTube

What do I mean by this?

You see, many channel owners are running their channels like their microphones are off

They are going through the motions but nothing of value is resonating

And this is culprit number 1 when it comes to people quitting YouTube

They produce videos, struggle to get results and then they quit

Saying that YouTube is “impossible”

The truth is that they were simply not operating with the right resources to actually see the progress they desired

And one of those missing pieces of a lack of in-demand video ideas

Most channel owners have no idea how to formulate ideas

So they pick topics that come to them in their dreams or while sitting on the toilet

And expect those videos to perform well (spoiler: that’s never the case)

What’s worse is that many of them are investing a lot of money into those videos

And are barely getting any return whatsoever

So they are like me, going through the motions of recording with nothing to show for their efforts in the end

Take the following video for example:

It uses very high-quality animations yet this video only produced 23,000 views (nowhere mean enough to cover its production costs)

This is why I stress the importance of ideation

Because without a good idea, it doesn’t matter how good of a script you have

How good your thumbnails are or how persuasive your titles can be

The idea will hold all of those other components back…

Therefore, if your video views aren’t where you want them to be

Review how you’re coming up with your video topics

More likely than not your issue lies in this part of the video production process

Until tomorrow,

Adam

P.S. Tomorrow is the last day to buy a guest pass to the Effortless Ideation Workshop, where I'm teaching my Tube Academy students the most effective ideation methods for YouTube. If you don't want to miss out, you can sign up here.
