The degree principle
Don't sleep on this...
If you know me you’d know that I have traditional Italian parents
The type who came to Canada for a better life
And saw university as the golden ticket to a life of financial success
If you’re around my age (I’m 32) then you probably have come to realize this:
A degree does not equal financial success
However, it can provide you with a livable income
That is if you pick the right path
And in a way, that path was pre-selected for me
You see, my parents were adamant that I went to university
But on top of that they were adamant that I took a particular degree
General Arts was not on my degree shopping list let me tell you…
It was medicine, law, engineering or accounting (which I ultimately chose)
Why the push in this direction?
Because they were the degrees my parents knew would allow me to make the most money possible…
Not only that but there was a need in the market for those skills
High value + high demand = $$$
The same principle applies on YouTube
I see it all the time, people randomly selecting a niche
Then sinking months and $1,000s into a channel with zero chance at success
Why?
Because it’s missing either the demand needed to grow
Or lacks any real way of making the channel owner money
It’s like picking a low-paying degree or one where there will be no jobs when you graduate
When you liken it to a degree, it’s easy to see why doing some upfront homework is a must
I suggest that you enter into a niche with at least 2 different ways to monetize
This is often ad revenue plus one other income stream
Bonus points if there are 3 or more…
Because the last thing you want to have happen is you invest your hard earned money and time into a channel
And get left with nothing to show for it…
Until tomorrow,
Adam
