The biggest mistake any new YouTube channel can make...

Do not do this

Whether you just started a new YouTube channel

Or are gearing up to in the new year

There is one major mistake that you need to avoid

It’s about as bad as when I shrink my wife’s clothes by leaving in the dryer too long (whoops)

You see, most channel owners start their channels with an endless amount of ideas flowing through them

They want to talk about finance, fitness, sports and the list goes on

The trouble is that many of them actually do

And this directly goes against the principle of Niche Alignment…

If you’re unfamiliar, niche alignment relates to the consistency of topics that are published on a channel

For example, proper niche alignment would be an NHL channel that only create videos about the NHL (15K sub channel)

Misalignment would be a channel whose content is all over the place from a topic perspective (3M+ sub channel)

As you can see, when you start touching on all possible topics, your view baseline decreases as you’re pulling in viewers with a host of different demographics and interests

Why is this a problem?

Because people will watch one video, subscribe and if you start presenting varied topics from there, they are likely to ignore other recommendations and become a ghost subscriber

Imagine if your favorite coffee shop sold milk instead of coffee 2 days a week

Chances are you’d avoid that coffee shop on those 2 days

Well, if you’re making content that falls outside the core interests of your subscriber base

Then those unrelated videos will receive the same response as those 2 non-coffee days at your coffee shop (no visitors!)

Therefore, going into 2025, make sure that you live and breathe the concept of niche alignment

Before releasing each video ask yourself, would be ideal viewer be interested in this topic?

If the answer is yes, then you’re off to the races!

Until tomorrow,

Adam
