This One Trick Will Instantly Get You More Views

On YouTube - content is king

Everyone tells you to focus on titles, thumbnails, production quality

And of course these are very important video elements too

I mean, if your titles suck

Or your thumbnails are boring

Then no one is ever going to click on your videos

But what really puts your video over the edge is the content inside

I’ve seen videos that look like they were filmed on a potato get 100,000s of views

How?

Because of the ideas and value inside the video - which is what really matters

My mom always used to tell me that it’s what inside that counts

Who knew she was talking about YouTube???

Anyways, moving on…

So the “what” of getting more views is having more valuable content

Now let’s address the “how”

Finding valuable educational or entertainment elements to include in our videos can be challenging

Fortunately, there’s a way that we can sneakily find out what’s taken other videos over the top

Then use those elements in our videos to see similar success

Here are two methods you can start using today

Method #1: Video Timeline Analysis

Every video on YouTube has a timeline indicating how long you’ve been watching the video. Here’s an example:

As you can see, I’m 7:25 into this video

You’ll also notice I have this video muted because as I’m writing this newsletter (5:25AM) my girlfriend is sleeping and I’m all about avoiding arguments (pro tips for the gentlemen)

You’ve obviously seen this timeline before but I bet you’ve never used it to get more views on your own videos. Here’s how you do it:

Step 1: Pick a video idea

Step 2: Search for a similar video on YouTube

Step 3: Scan timeline for most watched parts of video

Step 4: Study highlights for elements you can add into your videos (with your own spin)

In Humphreys video, if we hover over the timeline this is what we see:

There are multiple peaks in this video

Peaks are indications of the points in the video that were the most replayed

Now, maybe the creator was just talking too fast at that point so people had to rewind

But most likely, Humphrey was sharing some valuable information that viewers wanted to hear once or twice over

If people are that keen on these particular parts then these ideas may be valuable inclusions in your videos, right?

This is a cool little trick I like to use in order to ensure my videos provide maximal value to my viewers

Speaking of viewers, they can also share some ways to improve your videos even more

How? Through the comments they share!

This leads us to our second method:

Method #2: Comment Analysis

Along with analyzing the timeline on model videos I recommend you read the comments

Often viewers will specifically mention what tips they liked best or share the opposite which gives you an idea of what not to include on your own video

Here’s an example comment from the video above:

Comment text: “He didn't save money as a means to build wealth. He did it to ensure that he would never have to sleep hungry again"

You said this statement almost In passing.

But it really struck a chord in me and got me choked up.😭

Clearly the use of storytelling captivated this viewer and when included in your videos will naturally increase your retention

In fact, this is why I share the best story arcs for your videos in Tube Freedom because they are one of the best tools for raising the quality of your videos.

Viewers may also share tips that complement what’s shared in a video. For example:

Comment text: “My parents, who are hispanic, taught me to have two accounts for direct deposit. 50% to the checking and 50% to a banking account that I have no access to other than going to the physical location. It was extreme but it definitely worked!”

This comment includes a cool savings trick that got 163 likes. Clearly it was valuable to other users and your audience may find it helpful too!

The takeaway message here is two-fold:

  1. Content is king when it comes to YouTube success

  2. Which content is working is easily accessible

Now you have no excuse not to make the most value-rich videos possible!

Until next week,

Adam
