This is one of the saddest things I've heard all year
Listen to this...
There have been a ton of great things I’ve done in the past few years
For example:
I bought a new car
I got engaged
And right up there in terms of the highlights is cutting out the consumption of news
Let me tell you, my mental health has never been better
But, I’m not perfect
And sometimes a headline or two catches my eye and I succumb to it
Especially when the headline reads something like this:
Survey: More than 1 in 3 Americans earn money through side hustles, 32% think they’ll always need them
As someone who is very financially focused (it’s the CPA in me) seeing headlines like this really rubs me the wrong way
No, it’s not because I dislike seeing people earn more money (I actually love this!)
But that many people are forced into working 2 or 3 jobs just to get by
Robbing them of the freedom that is required to live an amazing life
Because as you can imagine, when you are pulling double shifts all the time it means:
Being away from your kids
Less time with friends
Less time to exercise etc.
As I’ve said before and will say again, times are changing
One income used to feed two mouthes
Then it become one income for one mouth
And now it’s two incomes for one mouth
Let’s face it, it will only get worse from here
That’s why I’m so grateful to have stumbled across the power of making money online in my early 20s
It allowed me to start earning at an exponential rate while minimally impacting the level of freedom I have in life
Let me paint the picture of how it worked for me…
When I started my YouTube journey, I was working 8-10 hours a day in management consulting
So, to make it work, I would get up 1-2 hours before work and come up with ideas for my channel, send them off to my freelance team and spend any additional time I had to review their work
Then, I would head off to work for the day, come home, eat, workout and spend time with my girlfriend at the time and head to bed
I rinsed and repeated this process for years to the tune of $100,000s in YouTube ad revenue
All the while still maintaining a proper balance of relationships, fun, health etc.
And that’s what separates making money online from simply adding on more jobs
With more involved side hustles, as income goes up, free time goes down inversely
With an online business (like YouTube), due to the power of outsourcing
As income goes up, time goes down minimally
Meaning more time for the more important things in life
While I’m not proud to say I succumbed to an old habit of reading the news the other week
I am happy that I came across this particular headline because it reminded me of what others are going through
A constant balance of needing more money to live with trying to still enjoy a bit of free time and relaxation in the day
It also makes me grateful that no matter how hard I had to work in the beginning, I didn’t give up on YouTube because really that’s the secret to success
And now I get to help people sidestep the pain of working two, three or more jobs because they are making more than enough online like Steve who has been crushing it in the basketball niche since we started working together
Therefore, if you feel like a side hustle is in your future or you’re currently working one that doesn’t quite cut it then it may be time to look for a more efficient way to make money
One that gives more (money) while taking less (time)
That’s truly what the internet has gifted us…
Note: I am opening up 3 new spots in Tube Academy this week
If you’re ready to create a part-time or full-time in come on YouTube and want to work with me directly to do just that then email me back the word “tube” and I’ll send you over the details
Happy Saturday!
