I never thought I'd do this

High school is a magical time of your life

You have a tight knit group of friends

You have little financial responsibility

And you have boundless levels of energy

Oh, those were the days!

What you may not know about me is this

I actually went to two high schools

Yup, I was a school hopper

Started Grade 9 at one school and switched in Grade 11

Why?

Because my group of friends at the first school wasn’t very robust

And I figured that if I changed schools maybe things would be different

Then I made the move and guess what?

I still had to put a ton of work in to make new friends

What I realized was that it wasn’t the school’s fault I didn’t have a ton of friends

It was mine…

And it’s the same notion on YouTube

Very often I see people who upload a handful of videos on YouTube

They fail to perform and then they ask “should I change niches?”

The answer in 99% of cases is no…

Because it’s not a niche issue - it’s a skill issue

If you can’t create a compelling video or solid packaging in one niche

What makes you think it will be different in another

Maybe this sounds harsh but this honest feedback is actually a speedtrack to faster success

How?

Because it forces you to properly diagnose what’s not working (your ideation, production and packaging)

And not on the niche that is little to do with your videos performance

So when is it advisable to change niches?

Most often I only recommend doing so when you failed to do niche research before selecting your niche

And it’s determined that there is minimal market interest for your channel’s topic

Again, this is rare but it does happen from time to time

So, if right now you’re stuck on your channel focus on the videos you’re putting out

Not the niche that you’re in

When you do, all the pieces of the puzzle will eventually fall into place

Until tomorrow,

Adam
