Exposing The Secret of a 13 Million Subscriber Channel

Channels that amass millions of subscribers have some sort of advantage

It could be:

  • Years on the platform

  • Access to capital

  • Unique skills or access

And for many new and/or smaller creators this is simply not a level we can compete on

However, every once in a while we can glean some nuggets of wisdom from these large channels

And use them to profit for ourselves

Today, I’m going to share an incredibly clever trick from a 13 million subscriber channel

The channel we will focus on today is Vogue (yes the fashion and lifestyle brand)

With access to A-list celebrities and an ongoing cult of followers it’s not hard for this channel to generate views

However Vogue doesn’t just rest on their laurels

They are actually employing savvy YouTube strategies to maximize the reach of their channel

Here’s one that you can use yourself…

Three years ago, Vogue released a video with actress Greta Gerwig

The video performed well but as you can see on the CreatorML graph the views ended up flatlining after some time

And then something happened…

Something called The Barbie Movie (which my girl said was fantastic by the way)

Well, guess who made that movie?

Greta Gerwig!

So what did Vogue do?

They changed the packaging on their previously released video to this:

Do you see what they did there?

They incorporated the word “Barbie” in their title

This steals attention from the current interest on the platform relating to this hit movie

And the results? Here’s the view graph after the change…

Not a bad spike in views, wouldn’t you say?

All from a simple title change to add more relevancy to the video

For those playing at home, this simple change added 400,000 views to the video…

So what should you take away from this? Two things…

1. Lean into existing demand on YouTube if you want to give your videos more of a chance of getting views

2. Review your older videos to see if any can be modified to siphon traffic from a presently trending topic

By doing these two things, you can give new videos a higher chance at success

While giving older videos a second life

Until next week,

Adam
