This Chrome Extension Is GUARANTEED To Get You More Views
Have you ever taken a moment to think about what makes you click on a YouTube video?
If you haven’t, here are some things that should come to mind:
Video title
Thumbnail
Video idea
It’s a short but important list and every successful creator knows these are the key elements to growing their channel
However, crafting winning titles and thumbnails is easier said than done
In a previous email, I shared with you how I’m using ChatGPT to craft intriguing titles
Today, I want to share a powerful Chrome extension that you can use to spy on your competition
This is one of the tools I use to gauge high performing titles and thumbnails of other creators in my niche
I also use this tool to find out what title and thumbnail sequences to avoid…
Let’s dive in!
First off, the Chrome extension I’ve been referring to is Creator ML
Before I continue, I always preface discussion around these tools by saying:
Use at your own risk (I did not make this tool and can’t 100% verify any security implications)
I am not getting paid to endorse or promote this extension
With respect to point number 1 however, the extension is designated as “Featured”
What does this mean? It means that it’s gone through some verification steps with Google which should, in theory, devoid it of any major user issues
Now, how does this tool work?
Once installed on your browser, Creator ML allows you to see changes in a video’s title and thumbnail
As you know, creators often swap out titles and thumbnails on existing videos in an effort to increase their clickthrough rates (CTR) and gain more views
However, what if you could skip the testing and see what’s already working…
It’s time to transform into James Bond and dive into how this spy technique works :)
Let’s say that I want to see the changes of Iman Gazhi’s video “I'm Broke... What Should I do?”
Right now, this is the thumbnail associated with this video:
But this wasn’t always the thumbnail…
If we open the video, you’ll see the Creator ML extension on the sidebar
This shows when the video was released and all the instances where changes were made (see dots on chart)
If I move my cursor through the changes, I can see the modification to the video’s thumbnail over time and how they affected the video’s VPH or views per hour
Now, if you’re looking closely, you can see that only the thumbnail changes
Iman (or his team) made no adjustments to the title
Why am I bringing this up?
Because if you change both elements at once (title and thumbnail) you can’t determine which is causing the uptick in CTR
When this is the case, you can’t carry forward your learnings to future videos
So, how do you use this tool to your advantage
Here are the steps I recommend you follow:
Find 5-10 top creators in your niche
Review their top performing videos that are < 1 year old
Study thumbnail and title changes and identify patterns
Use title and thumbnail strategies in your own videos
Get more views :)
Until next week,
Adam
