What 90% of People Get Wrong About YouTube
Stop making this mistake...
Ask those closest to me and they will describe me as:
Smart
Caring
Kind
Stubborn
While I hate to admit it, the last one is true…
So much so that my Nonna used to tell me I had a “testa dura”
Which in Italian means literally translates to being “hard headed”
I am stubborn in the sense that it often takes me a while to change my beliefs about things
Even if there is evidence to support the facts being presented to me
For example, I used to believe that the best use of your extra money was investing for the future
However, ever since my fiancée has got me spending some of my extra cash on travelling, I’ve never looked back as it’s allowed me to create memories I’ll cherish for a lifetime
Sadly, many people hold stubborn beliefs about YouTube
Which is holding them back tremendously
One that is incredibly harmful is thinking that you need to be a thumbnail designer to create highly-clickable thumbnails…
The truth is that the power of a good thumbnail lies not in its graphical design but in the message that it telegraphs…
For example, here is a highly-edited thumbnail that has barely generated any views…
Now here’s an example thumbnail that has helped the video generate almost 200,000 views
While looking like it was designed in MS Paint
The question you probably have going through your mind right now is:
“How the hell did they do it???”
The answer? Resonance
People who see this thumbnail are struck by it because they:
1. Feel like others have more money than them
2. Question how this is the case
Put another way, the packaging speaks to them
Much more than having dollar bills flying around ever could…
Therefore, before designing your next thumbnail think about who will be watching your video
What do they struggle with? What are their desires?
When you do this, your packaging will hit deeper and in turn the views will start rolling in
Until tomorrow,
Adam
Ps. Tomorrow is the last day to buy a guest pass to the Viral Thumbnail Framework Workshop where I’m teaching my Tube Academy students the most effective thumbnail creation methods on YouTube. If you don’t want to miss out you can sign up here.
