The 3 Top Lessons I Learned After Teaching 500+ YouTube Students

Here's what ACTUALLY works on YouTube

Having grown to over 2.5 million subscribers on YouTube has taught me a lot

Like how frustrating it can be when you’re stuck getting 50 views a video

Or how gratifying it is when you have your first $10,000 month

However, I’ve probably learned as much (if not more) working with numerous students over the years than I have going through my own YouTube journey

You see, building and monetizing on YouTube is kind of like riding a bike

At first, you need to pay immense focus to every single revolution of the pedal

As you slowly gain the skill over time

But, once you do well…”it’s like riding a bike” (pun intended)

You just get on the bike and go, there is no thinking involved

And that’s what happened to me on YouTube

I just “knew what to do…”

Then, when I started helping others, I realized I was doing a ton that had become second nature

As such, I want to share the 3 top lessons I’ve learned helping students grow and monetize on YouTube (many of them achieving 100,000s of subscribers and $10,000+ months)

Lesson 1: Niche Purgatory

When I first started working with students I thought to myself “this will be easy!”

They will start a channel, select a niche and we will be off to the races

Boy, was I wrong…

What trips up many people is getting stuck in niche purgatory

Which is the space between wanting to start YouTube and starting to release videos

Unfortunately, many people ponder over a niche for weeks or months and just never take action

This problem was so bad that I literally had to add in the Niche Lab into Tube Academy where I give you 50 niches with almost 1,000 example channels to ease the decision

On top of that I create 3 new Niche Roadmaps monthly where I identify a high potential niche and lay out the entire channel strategy I would take if I entered that niche

Basically I hand you your niche on a silver platter

I do this because I know students want to grow and make money

And the last thing I want is them sitting around thinking about a niche when they need to be making videos and improving more and more over time

Therefore, if you are on the fence about a niche here’s my advice

JUST PICK ONE!

It’s much better than never starting at all because at least you can start to cultivate your video production skills which will pay off handsomely over time…

Lesson 2: Market Demand

Who do you think would sell more hotdogs?

A ) A vendor selling during the halftime show of the Superbowl

B) A vendor selling two weeks after the Superbowl had passed

Clearly vendor A. Why?

Demand…

What I’ve noticed is that many people will make videos they “think” people will want to watch

When in reality they need to lean into what the market wants instead

For example, my student didn’t just make sports videos on random athletes hoping for the best…

He tracked an increase in market demand for Caitlin Clark content and used it to generate multiple 100,000 view videos

Leveraging market demand is as close to a YouTube cheat code as you’re going to get

Which is why no matter if you’re starting a new channel or have an existing one

It’s absolutely essential to move towards existing market attention rather than trying to attract it

Lesson 3: Packaging

What hurts me the most is seeing someone invest their precious time and money into their videos only for them to fall flat

Very often, this is due to poor packaging (title and thumbnails)

For instance, their packaging is:

  • Too narrow to attract views

  • Misaligned to their hook

  • Cluttered

  • Lacking intrigue

The good news about poor packaging is that once the skill is developed, improved results can come quick

For instance, I helped my student broaden their audience targeting and improve the messaging on their thumbnails and here is how things changed:

Same quality video, just an improvement in packaging and voila!

Therefore, if you’re serious about growing and making money on YouTube then please take these lessons seriously

Fixing the issues I shared above has helped my students transform their channels and turn them into cashflowing machines

And they can do the same for you!

Happy Saturday,

Adam
